What this policy covers
This policy explains what personal data we collect, how and why we use it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and your rights under the EU/EEA General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
What we collect
- Contact & submissions: name, email, message content, and materials you choose to send (e.g., press kits, private links).
- Newsletter (if you sign up): email address and basic engagement metrics (opens/clicks).
- Site usage & analytics: pages visited, device/browser info, approximate location (country/region), referring site. This is aggregated and not used to profile individuals.
- Technical data: IP address and user-agent may be processed briefly for security (e.g., firewall, rate-limiting).
- Cookies & similar tech: essential cookies for basic site functionality; optional analytics or preference cookies (if enabled—see “Cookies” below).
- Third-party links: when you follow links to services like Spotify, YouTube, SoundCloud, Beatport, ticketing or social platforms, those services may collect data under their own policies.
We do not intentionally collect sensitive categories of data, nor do we knowingly collect data from children under 16.
Why we use your data (legal bases)
- To respond to you / perform our services (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR): handling contact requests, evaluating submissions, sending requested information.
- With your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)): newsletter sign-ups, non-essential cookies/analytics. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)): ensuring site security, preventing abuse, producing high-level, non-intrusive audience statistics to improve content. We balance these interests against your rights.
How we share data
We use reputable service providers (“processors”) to operate our site and communications—for example: website hosting, email delivery, analytics, file storage. They process data strictly under our instructions and appropriate safeguards. We do not sell personal data.
International transfers
If data is transferred outside the EEA/UK by our providers, we require adequate safeguards (e.g., Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent). You can contact us for more information.
Retention
- Contact messages & submissions: typically up to 12 months after the conversation closes (or longer if we are actively considering/publishing your pitch).
- Newsletter: until you unsubscribe.
- Security logs: typically up to 12 months.
- Analytics: kept in aggregated form per the provider’s retention windows.
Your rights (EU/EEA)
You may request access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection to certain processing, and data portability where applicable. You also have the right to withdraw consent at any time.
To exercise your rights, email contact@behindthedecks.com.
You can lodge a complaint with your local Data Protection Authority. In Ireland: the Data Protection Commission.
Cookies
- Essential cookies run to provide basic functionality (security, network management).
- Non-essential/analytics cookies run only with your consent (if we enable them).
You can manage cookies via your browser settings. If we display a cookie preferences banner, use it to update your choices at any time.
Security
We apply reasonable technical and organisational measures (HTTPS, access controls, least-privilege accounts). No system can be 100% secure.

Our articles often link out to external platforms. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices—please check their policies.
